SID & GAMBLE
Practice Area ยท Legal

Lawyers placed where their judgment matters most.

Legal hiring rewards precision. The difference between a strong lawyer and the right lawyer is usually the practice, the client base and the culture of the team they are joining. Sid & Gamble recruits lawyers for in-house legal departments and law firms in the United States and Canada, from the commercial counsel who becomes indispensable to a business to the lateral partner who brings a practice with them.

Where We Work

Our legal practice is focused on the United States and Canada. The two markets share a language and a common law tradition, but they hire differently. American firms compete on scale and rates, while Canadian demand is concentrated in fewer practices and a growing share of it now sits in-house. We work with clients who understand those differences and want a partner who does too.

The Market Right Now

Demand for legal work has held up better than many forecasts expected, but firms are more careful about who they add. Litigation has been the steadiest source of hiring in both countries, transactional teams are following the deals that are actually closing, and in-house departments are growing as businesses bring more work inside. Lawyers whose work is hardest to compress, in contested matters, complex transactions and senior advisory roles, are the ones most in demand.

Our Approach

How we run a legal search.

We match on practice, not title

Two senior associates with the same years of experience can have very different practices. We look at the work, the clients and the matters, not just the CV.

We understand both sides of the profession

In-house teams and law firms value different things, and many lawyers move between them. We tell candidates and clients plainly how a move will be seen on the other side.

We are discreet by default

Lawyers considering a move, and firms planning lateral hires, rarely want it known. Every conversation stays confidential.

Let's talk about your next legal hire.

Whether you are adding a lawyer to an in-house team or a partner to a practice, we would like to hear what you need.
